Measures every frame

Each photo is decoded once. The faces are found and measured at full resolution — sharpness on the eyes, whether they are open, the expression, the head pose, skin exposure — and the frame is scored for sharpness, clipping and appeal.

Rejects, then ranks each moment

Frames that cannot be delivered go first: soft on the subject, eyes closed when a better frame of the same second exists, blown-out skin, black frames. The survivors of every burst are ranked in a fixed order — sharp subject, open eyes, expression, facing the camera, exposure, appeal — so every pick can say what it won on.

The same engine runs both. The selector answers "give me the best N" and hides the rejects; the photo culler shows a verdict and a reason for every frame, lets you review by keyboard, and writes the decisions back as Lightroom ratings. Photographers culling a full shoot should use the culler.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
