High quality runs a larger AI model with much better hair and edge detail — a one-time ~245 MB download (model + AI runtime), and it needs WebGPU, which current Chrome, Edge and Safari have. Auto picks it on computers; on phones Auto stays on Fast (a ~30 MB one-time download that runs anywhere) and you can choose High quality here if you'd rather wait for the download. Both are cached. Applies to the next photo.

Transparent keeps the cutout as a PNG you can place on anything. White suits marketplace product shots and document photos. Applies to downloads, so you can switch it after processing.

How this background remover works

Hosted background removers cap the free result at a quarter of a megapixel, stamp a watermark on it, or meter it with credits. This one runs the AI on your device instead, so the full-resolution cutout costs nothing — and your photos stay yours.

The AI reads each photo

A segmentation model downloads to your browser once, then scores every pixel: subject or background. On a computer with a current browser, the High quality engine uses BEN2 — the same class of model behind the paid removers — for crisp hair and edge detail.

The background becomes transparency

The matte is applied to your original pixels — nothing is recompressed or resized — so the cutout comes out at the photo's native resolution, soft edges and all.

Is this background remover really free, with no watermark?

Yes. You get the full-resolution result as a transparent PNG — no watermark, no sign-up, no per-image credits; one photo at a time. The AI runs in your own browser, so a photo costs us nothing and nothing needs to be paywalled.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The AI runs in your browser — on your graphics chip when there is one, otherwise on the processor — and the photo never leaves your device. Older computers just take a little longer.

How does it handle hair and fine edges?

On a computer with a recent browser, the High quality engine runs BEN2, a state-of-the-art open background-removal model that preserves hair, fur and other fine edges. On phones and older browsers a smaller portrait-matting model keeps things fast; it is excellent on people but weaker on products and objects. The Settings panel lets you pick an engine, and Auto chooses the best one your device can run.

Can I get a white background for product or ID photos?

Yes. Open Settings and switch the background from Transparent to White, or pick any custom color. Downloads then come out as JPGs with your chosen backdrop — handy for marketplace product shots and document photos.

Can I do many photos at once?

One at a time. Each cutout gets your device’s full attention, so the tool takes a single photo per run — drop the next one as soon as the first is done. For whole events, AccioPix delivers every guest their own photos automatically.
